Getting the Right Locksmith for the Job
Locks are a part of security for buildings, safes, and cars, and locks and keys have existed in various forms for centuries, and always with the same purpose in mind: security. Today, many companies and locksmiths exist to create new locks and keys and provide them to customers to keep their houses, safes, and cars under protection, and should go anything wrong, a customer can contact a locksmith to open their locked car or home or find a lost key fob. Key fob programming can also be done with the aid of a locksmith, and to reprogram a key fob is to make sure that a person can always get into their car. An auto locksmith, meanwhile, will answer many distress calls from people who have accidentally locked their keys inside the car and thus cannot open the vehicle. A locksmith today has plenty of work to do, given the universal nature of keys and how common fobs are.
Security Today
Security may take any number of forms for safes, buildings, and cars and trucks, and the most universal line of defense, many would argue, is a key or a fob. Just how often do Americans get their businesses, homes, or cars broken into every year, and how often are people accidentally locked out of their own property? A home burglary takes place in the United States once every 13 seconds, and some of these burglaries are made possible simply because a front or back door was left unlocked by accident. Similarly, a safe can be kept secure when it is locked, but if someone’s key is stolen or found out in the open, any thief can use it on the lock and access its contents without the owner’s permission. The industry for safes and vaults is growing; between 2012 and 2017, it saw 1.2% annual growth, but a safe or vault is only as safe as its user. A person may also accidentally give away their safe’s combination, whether digital or analog, and this can allow thieves to break in.
What can be done to prevent break-ins to homes, safes, or cars? A locksmith can help a client update their lock or safe combination with new data or hardware, and this can be especially helpful if a key was stolen and not recovered, or if a person accidentally gave away their safe or vault’s combination for entry. A person who realizes that their home’s locks or their safe is vulnerable to thieves or burglars should update their security as soon as possible to prevent an old key from working on new house locks, and to re-secure a safe’s code. Changing a house’s locks is common practice after a break-in, as new locks are tougher than old ones, and previously stolen keys will not work on the new locks. The same may be true for safes; a person can consult the user’s manual or call the manufacturer to find out how to program in a new code to prevent those who stole the old code from breaking in.
Cars are another issue for security; most often, against an owner’s own carelessness. It is common for people to accidentally lock themselves out of their car, and whenever this happens, a locksmith may be contacted, and this hardware professional will visit and help the client out. This is a common practice; in the year 2015, for example, the American Automobile Association stated that it received over 4,000,000 calls from locked out motorists in each year up to that point. This is not surprising, given how most American households involve at least one car, or even two or more, and one in four Americans loses his or her car keys twice a week on average.
A fob is useful for remotely locking or unlocking a car, or even opening the trunk or manually setting off the alarm. Sometimes, a fob may malfunction or a car owner may get a new one, and in cases such as these, a new key fob can be programmed with professional help. This gets a car owner set up with a good fob that will lock and unlock their car as needed, and this can prevent security issues of all kinds.
